Legalized marijuana may still be new in the United States, but it is already proving itself to be a big deal and many people are getting in on it. Over the years, more and more people have started to believe that marijuana should be legal on a federal level both medicinally and recreationally, and this number continues to get higher as the years go by and the benefits, as well as the relative safety of the plant, is becoming more widely known. With Canada making the drug legalized, the government in the United States is starting to take notice and there are even talks about legalizing it federally.
Canada was the first industrialized country to legalize marijuana and so far the results have arguably been quite good. While federally, cannabis is still considered a Schedule 1 drug, it’s expected that this will change in the upcoming years which may catapult it to being a business that is bigger than soda. There are already around a dozen states that are allowing adults to consume marijuana recreationally and around 2/3 of the country letting patients use it for medical purposes. At the rate everything is going when it comes to marijuana, the United States could outdo sales in Canada.
The legalization of marijuana has allowed companies like Green Bits to make a good deal of money from the business and more and more people are joining the ranks. It’s a unique business opportunity even if the territory is still largely unexplored. Even though there are some bigger businesses leading the way, many communities are seeing smaller businesses being able to bring in big revenue from the sale of not only marijuana and marijuana containing products, but also the accessories that go along with it. In many states where it is legal, people no longer have to go to shady smoke shops and gas stations to find a “water pipe” for their needs. They can just call it what it is.
There are still a lot of hurdles that businesses have to face in the industry and federally it is still illegal. One of the major problems that businesses in legal states are facing are issues with licensing. The licenses that are required to grow and sell marijuana and its derivatives can be quite expensive which makes it harder for smaller businesses to get into the market. These licenses many times do not indicate what the maximum amount of production is for growers in their states which can lead to a lower cost for the dried product itself. This can be good news for customers, but not for smaller businesses.
Whatever your opinion is on marijuana, it can’t be denied that it is quickly becoming a big deal in the United States. It doesn’t look like much of anything can stop it. The people have spoken, and the majority says that it is time to end the prohibition of the substance and let adults in the United States make the decision to consume it responsibly.
